Holy Grill and Lions Club Receive Buena Park Awards

The Buena Park Fine Arts Commission held their annual Community Service Recognition Awards ceremony on May 14, 2009 at the Buena Park City Hall. The Cypress Church Knights of the Holy Grill and the Noon Lions Club were honored along with individual members of the community. Fine Arts Commission Chair Rebecca McGuire complimented the award recipients because they had “consistently donated to make our programs excellent.”

The Fine Arts Division of Buena Park offers a wide range of programming and entertainment for the entire family including “Concerts In The Park,” Civic Theatre and Youth Theatre. The awards ceremony was planned by the Community Recognition Committee. Chairperson Marge Rollins presented the awards. Carol Young received the Elva Liesch Hughes Laureate of the Arts Award. Special Recognition was given to the Cypress Church “Knights of the Holy Grill” and the Noon Lions Club.

Samantha Salazar and David Dean received individual recognition for their service to the Buena Park Youth Theatre program. The next Youth Theatre production is “Annie Get Your Gun” beginning on June 12, 2009. Tickets are available through the Buena Park Recreation Office. More information is available at (714) 236-3860. Chili’s Restaurant was one of the Business Partnership Award recipients. They provided refreshments for everyone who attended the awards ceremony.

The Knights of Holy Grill award was primarily a result of their service to the Youth Theatre program. The Knights cooked and served all of the food for the main fund raising events during the past several years. The Holy Grill concept grew out of the Cypress Church Men’s Ministry. They had a desire to serve and benefit the entire community in a tangible way.

Holy Grill Leader Dave Austin stated: “God has consistently answered our prayers. He has His hand in all of our activities. Everything we do is because of our desire to show God’s love to our community.” More information about the Holy Grill is available by calling the Cypress Church Office at (714) 952-3001.
