Students Host Valentine Dinner at Cypress Church

Cypress Church held a Valentine dinner and dance on Saturday, February 13th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The theme was *Vintage Valentine.* The event was sponsored by students from the church.

There was dinner, dancing, and many family activities. The evening was opened in prayer by College Ministry leader Ryan Holleman. He thanked God for loving us enough to send Jesus to the cross and provide the free gift of eternal life to all who will believe in Jesus Christ.

The *Knights of the Holy Grill* prepared a delicious meal. The dinner menu included chicken and tri-tip, sautéed vegetable medley, cheesy potatoes, mixed greens with vinaigrette, French bread, beverage and dessert.

After dinner the students led guests in a game of musical hearts. Men delivered Valentines to their sweethearts and women played a game of traditional graces. The evening was capped off with a limbo contest and dancing. Proceeds from the evening are designated for future student mission trips to spread the *Good News* of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.

Cypress Church Offers *Choose The Life* Classes

Cypress Church is offering a series of classes entitled *Choose The Life.* This 10 week Bible study course, written by Bill Hull and Paul Mascarella, is being used in many churches throughout the world. The classes and activities challenge traditional thinking about what it means to be a follower of Christ.

The community is invited to join Bible teacher and author Paul Mascarella as he leads this interactive seminar. The classes are held on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. at Cypress Church located at 6143 Ball Road just east of Valley View.

Paul Mascarella has served in local church ministry for more than twenty-five years as an Associate Pastor, Minister of Music, and Worship Director while holding an executive management position at a daily newspaper in Los Angeles. He is currently an Instructor at the Londen Institute Graduate School of Ministry. He holds degrees as Bachelor of Philosophy, Master of Theological Studies and is the author of six books.

The *Choose The Life* journey is a clear and well marked path to spiritual transformation. The program rebuilds the concept of the Christian Gospel from the disciple upwards. It asks what is wrong with the Gospel as it is taught in contemporary Western Culture and then suggests some changes in the way it is communicated by the Church. Each participant is called to rethink what it means to be follower of Jesus.

Cypress Church has Bible studies available almost every day of the week. Some are held at the church campus and others in homes throughout the community. Sunday worship services are at 8:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Watch Bible teaching from Cypress Church on the internet at: www.Livestream.com/CypressChurch. Information about *Choose The Life* and other church activities is available at (714) 952-3001.

Leadership Conference Held At Cypress Church

Pastors and church leaders from southwestern states held a conference at Cypress Church on Saturday, January 30th. The meeting was sponsored by the western division of the Evangelical Free Churches of America (EFCA). Pastor Mike McKay and the staff of Cypress Church hosted the workshop.

Steve Highfill, the Director of EFCA West, opened the meeting with an overview of his organization’s history and purpose. The EFCA is an association of about 1,300 churches. The individual churches are autonomous but they are united by a mutual commitment to serve the Lord Jesus Christ with the guidance of the Holy Spirit in obedience to the Word of God.

Highfill was the founding pastor of Cypress Church in 1978. Cypress Church started as a home Bible study and later moved to its current location at 6143 Ball Road just east of Valley View. Along with other EFCA churches, Cypress Church is committed to living out the Christian faith with care for others, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. EFCA churches believe that Jesus Christ shed His blood on the cross as the sacrifice for the sins of all who will have faith in Him. The atoning death and victorious resurrection of Jesus (celebrated during Easter week) are the only grounds for salvation and entrance into Heaven.

The leadership conference was attended by pastors, staff and lay leaders from many area churches. Presenters came from as far away as Colorado. The theme for the conference was *We’re Better Together.* The all day event included many workshop sessions for participants. Lunch was prepared and served by Dave Austin and his team, *The Knights of the Holy Grill.* Workshop sessions included topics on ministry success, conflict resolution, children’s ministries, legal issues, church health, assimilation of new attendees and theology.

Cypress Church is committed to serving all of northern Orange County and the surrounding area. There are Bible studies, worship services and programs for all age groups. Sunday worship is at 8:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The current message series is focused on the topic of prayer. Information about Cypress Church is available at (714) 952-3001 or Google *Cypress Church Connections* for the online versions of their monthly *Connections* magazine.
