Local Students To Join In Collective Voice Community Worship

Students from Cypress Church, Long Beach Alliance Church, First Baptist Church of Los Alamitos and Cornerstone Church will meet at the Cypress Church campus on Tuesday March 30th at 6:00 p.m. for "Collective Voice Community Worship." Collective Voice is sponsored by Cypress Church Student Ministries in conjunction with other area churches. The focus will be on Passion Week events climaxing with the victory won by Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary. This is one of eight worship opportunities at Cypress Church during Easter Week. The community is invited to join in worship and reflect on Christ's journey to the cross. The finished work of Jesus on Calvary allows believers to experience new life.

Easter is a special time for Christians everywhere and Cypress Church is planning eight worship services for the community during Easter week. The Easter season celebrations begin Palm Sunday which is on March 28th. There will be two services at 8:45 and 10:30 a.m. The contemporary worship team and praise band will be joined by a string ensemble and horn section in leading the congregation. Palm Sunday will celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. This occasion, which occurred on April 6, 32 AD, was the symbol of Christ as Messiah and King. On that day, in fulfillment of Biblical prophecy, Jesus rode into the city on a donkey while the people were crying out: “Hosanna, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”

Cypress Church will celebrate Maundy Thursday with an evening Communion Service at 7:00 p.m. on April 1st. The theme will be a journey to the Upper Room the night before Jesus went to the cross. The term Maundy, meaning “mandate” or “command,” refers to the new command Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper. The congregation will sit around tables. The Worship Center will be transformed into a Last Supper-esque scene. Music and narration will lead worshippers on a journey to the “Upper Room.”

On Good Friday, April 2nd, the worship service will focus on Christ’s journey from the Upper Room to the Cross. Beginning at 7:00 p.m., this powerful evening will tug at worshipper’s hearts as they remember what God did for everyone through the death of Jesus Christ. The Worship Center will be dark with an occasional candle penetrating the shadows. There will be live music, video presentations and other creative elements.

Sunday, April 4th is Easter Sunday and there will be three Easter Sunday Worship Services at Cypress Church at 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. This day will a great celebration as the contemporary choir and praise band lead the congregation in worshiping the Risen Savior. Senior Pastor Mike McKay will present a message about Jesus and His resurrection. There will be uplifting songs of praise as well as some old-favorites. “He Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed!” The Cypress Church Children’s Ministry has special activities planned for kids on Easter Sunday. These will include a presentation of the story of Easter, exciting games and an egg hunt.

The Cypress Church campus is located at 6143 Ball Road just east of Valley View. The public is invited to participate in all Easter Passion Week activities. Community residents may follow Cypress Church on Facebook and Twitter and the public may also subscribe to the online version of the monthly “Connections” magazine. Cypress Skateway Found New Life As Cypress Church

The Cypress Event News featured a picture of the old Cypress Skateway building in their March 12th issue "Blast From The Past.” The former Cypress Skateway building found new life as the home for Cypress Church. This church began as a home Bible study in 1978. As the church grew and needed larger facilities they rented rooms at local schools.

By the late 1980’s the congregation numbered several hundred and additional space was needed for offices and classrooms. The Cypress Skateway building was purchased in 1987. Church staff and volunteers from the congregation performed all of the initial renovations to the building. The first worship services were held in the renovated Skateway building in 1989.

Cypress Church has found many ways to serve the local community. Their facilities have been made available to local school groups and sports teams. There is a Men’s Bible Study Fellowship on Monday evenings; Junior High and High School youth meet on Tuesdays. On Wednesday the Children’s Ministry offers Awana clubs and during the summer there is Vacation Bible School and Music Camp. Precept Bible studies meet on Thursday and there are worship services on Sunday at 8:45 and 10:30 a.m. Church members collect food and make blankets for the homeless and also serve at the local Cypress Senior Center. The Cypress Church Band often plays at the Cypress Community Festival.

This year during Easter week Cypress Church will offer eight worship services beginning on Palm Sunday. The contemporary worship team, praise band will be joined by a string ensemble and horn section in leading the worship services. Palm Sunday will celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The Student Ministries is partnering with other local churches for Collective Voice Worship which will be on Tuesday, March 30th at 6:00 p.m. On Thursday April 1st there will be a special communion service at 7:00 p.m. The church will also have Good Friday services on April 2nd starting at 7:00 p.m.

Missions Rummage Sale on March 27th at Cypress Church

Discover new treasures and share some of your “white elephants” with friends and neighbors while you support a worthy cause at the same time. Cypress Church will be holding a Rummage Sale on Saturday, March 27th from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm. The proceeds from the sale will go to support missions teams travelling to New Orleans, Ecuador, Mexico and India this coming summer

Christians have the privilege and duty of sharing God’s love with others. Cypress Church takes this responsibility to heart in a big way. During December 2009 a team of Cypress High School and Cypress College students travelled to America’s Center in St. Louis Missouri for the five day Urban Missions Conference. The team will learned how critical global issues like human trafficking, environmental degradation, poverty and divisions between peoples affect all of us. They got connected to tangible ways that will enable them to take part in God's work of bringing reconciliation and healing to our broken world through his Son, Jesus Christ.

During the summer of 2009 the Ecuador team travelled through miles of jungle to bring the life changing message of Jesus to the Waodani tribe in South America. Last July a team of 15 students and adults from Cypress Church travelled to New Orleans to serve with the Urban Impact organization. They played key roles in staffing a summer program for youth in the housing projects of New Orleans. The team taught Bible lessons and sports fundamentals to disadvantaged children in partnership with Castle Rock Church. The Cypress Church Ecuador and New Orleans Teams are making plans to serve again during the summer of 2010.

The Rummage Sale at Cypress Church on March 27th will be instrumental in funding these mission activities. Community residents are invited to donate clothing, furniture, books, electronic equipment, jewelry, kitchen utensils & other household items. Donations will be received on Thursday, March 25th from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm and also on Friday, March 26th from 12 noon until 11:00 pm.

The Cypress Church campus is located at 6143 Ball Road just east of Valley View. Information about the Missions Rummage Sale is available from Susan Peterson at (562) 867-5223 or email: susan@funplaces.com

Cypress Church will be offering eight worship services during Easter Week from March 28th through April 4th. Information about activities of interest to the community is available at (714) 952-3001 or on the church web site located at: http://www.cypresschurch.net/
