Community Invited to *Discover God in America*

When Jane Whitney traveled from her home in Los Alamitos to Washington D.C. recently, she was on a quest to further discover and investigate how God shaped America and its Capitol. What she found was, for her, nothing short of remarkable. On Friday, October 1, Jane will present evidence that America is, as she asserts, *The Great Experiment in a Great God-given Republic.* The event, titled, *Discovering God in America,* is free of charge.

At 7 pm at Cypress Church, Jane will share her journey through the halls of the Library of Congress, Lincoln and Washington Memorials, and a host of other D.C. landmarks. She will present inscriptions and artwork inspired by America’s Founding Fathers that were meant to discreetly yet definitively remind Americans what their view and intentions of our country was. Tied into the presentation are recounts of historical events that, according to her, helped develop our nation’s Christian heritage.

*They designed the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and the Bill of Rights to be run by those who had faith in Him,* says Jane, who earned a BA from Long Beach State and Masters Degree from Talbot Theological Seminary. *They realized that without a moral compass, provided by Judeo-Christian values, our country would not survive.*

When Jane left for D.C., she had one goal in mind – to investigate the Biblical scripture, godly sayings and other Christian references within the artwork and monuments. But what she found amazed even her, a self-professed American history buff.

*Inside the Washington Monument there are scriptures and religious references that very few know are even there. They are carved inside the blocks that make up the monument.* In addition, Jane photographed many other visible inscriptions of faith that she will display in her presentation. *It’s really fascinating to study and see these things before your very eyes.*

While she firmly believes these inscriptions were used to help represent the Founding Fathers’ views and to establish a nation of faith, Jane also believes there has been a slow erosion of the values that are imbedded within this faith. One example she gives is the U.S. judicial system and how she believes it has not been true to the Constitution.

*People need to know the Constitution* she says, and specifically, the First Amendment and its protection of free exercise of religion. To provide evidence that this protection is failing, she recounted an event that occurred shortly after she returned home in which a group of students were stopped by police from praying together on the steps of the Supreme Court. *They had to step into the street gutter to pray!* Pocket-size booklets that contain the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution will be available for purchase at the presentation.

By giving attendees a taste of what she discovered on her trip, Jane has two goals she hopes to accomplish through her presentation. The first is to help people realize *the great gift God has given us in our godly heritage and the freedoms we have in the USA.* Secondly, she hopes to encourage others to do what they can to help keep those freedoms, including their own research. *Each person can make a difference,* Jane concluded.

People of all ages are encouraged to attend this educational and inspirational event. Refreshments will be served and there will be a special appearance by George Washington and Abigail Adams. Childcare will be provided for children age 3 and under. Jane Whitney and her husband, Jim, are co-Directors of the Prayer Ministry at Cypress Church, where they have attended for 22 years.
